This space works as a shock absorber in a bumping situation. Hard hats are used to protect the skull and they also have the ability to attach face shields to protect ears and eyes, new hard hats have places to accommodate mounted lights, safety glasses and ear muffs.

  1. Class G: The hats in this class provides limited voltage protection but good impact protection. These hard hats are used for building construction, mining, manufacturing, lumber industry and ship building.
  2. Class E: These helmets can protect electrical workers as they protect against high voltage, shock, burns and falling objects.
  3. Class C: This class will not protect the worker from falling objects or electrical shock but it can protect the workers from bumping against fixed objects.

Organizations should identify the hazards involved in a specific job and choose the type of hat that is required for this particular job. It is also the duty of the organizations to provide proper training to their workers for taking care of their personal protective equipment (PPE). In construction industry where there is a possibility of head injuries, it is recommended for employers to display signs such as “watch your head”, or “watch for the falling stones” to provide maximum security to their workers.
